“I never thought it would be this hard – when do I get to the good part?”
If you’ve ever had this thought, you’re not alone. Running a business can be tougher than most of us expect. But here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Let’s be real—the entrepreneurial journey comes with its challenges. But there are ways to make the “hard” feel easier, so you can spend more time enjoying the good parts. Here are five strategies to help lighten the load:
1. Accept That It’s Supposed to Be Hard
Sometimes, the hardest part is resisting the hard stuff. I’ve seen it with my clients: when we fight the challenges, it makes them feel even bigger.
Here’s the thing—when you’re building something meaningful, you will be stretched. Whether it’s learning to sell, setting up systems, or navigating tricky team dynamics, these challenges are part of the process.
The good news? The tough times are temporary, and how long they last is often up to you. Embrace the discomfort, lean into growth, and remember: success is earned, not handed over.
2. Learn How to Say NO
Some of the toughest situations my clients face start with a reluctant “yes.” Saying yes out of guilt, fear of disappointing someone, or simply overcommitting your time can lead to regret.
Every time you say yes to something you don’t really want, you’re saying no to something that matters—whether it’s your peace of mind, your family, or your true priorities.
Give yourself permission to say no. It’s not selfish—it’s smart.
3. Ask for Help
I get it: you’re capable, resourceful, and used to doing it all yourself. But here’s the thing—just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

There’s likely something on your plate right now that you don’t need to be doing. Maybe it’s a task you don’t enjoy, aren’t great at, or simply shouldn’t be spending your energy on.
Let it go. Delegate it. (I can help.) When you focus on what you love and do best, business starts to feel easier—and more fun.
4. Quit Wearing Busy as a Badge of Honor
Ask anyone how they’re doing, and you’ll often hear, “I’m so busy!” But busy isn’t a measure of success—it’s often a sign we’re spinning our wheels.
As Brene Brown said in Rising Strong: “How often do we try to solve problems by doing more of what’s not working—doing it harder, grinding it out longer? We’ll do anything to avoid the lowest of the low—self-examination.”
Take a step back. Are you filling your time with tasks that matter or just staying busy? Remember, the most successful people aren’t the busiest—they’re the most focused.
5. Stop Working Weekends
Yes, even if you love your work. Taking time to unplug is crucial for your mental and physical well-being.
When you give yourself permission to rest, you’ll return to your business with more energy, creativity, and enthusiasm. The ideas flow better. The to-do list feels less daunting.

Take the weekend. Your business will thank you for it.
